DUTIES: Varies with positions:

Information Desk: Answers questions about building and construction, exhibits, preserve and general information at Information Desk.
Theater/Exhibits: Answers questions about exhibits, occasionally gives tours and helps with school groups.
Resource Center Attendant: Guides visitors to written or electronic resources useful in environmental projects, recommends additional resources for purchase.
Field Steward: Helps maintain landscaped areas, parking lot and mini wetland; includes weeding, watering, trimming and planting.
Roaming Naturalist: Roams main boardwalk and trails to set up spotting scopes to point out wildlife or natural features to visitors, answers questions about local flora and fauna.
Program/Outreach: Presents off-site programs at schools and civic organizations and supervises booths at local environmental events.
Special Events: Assists with special events, creates and distributes invitations, sets up auditorium, collects event money and tickets, serves food, assists with audio-visual needs, cleans up and sends thank-you notes. Duties are shared and rotated with other volunteers.
Hike Guides: Leads visitors on hikes, interprets the ecosystems and answers questions regarding the local ecology and the Preserve features.
Photo/Videographer: Assists in photographing and videotaping wildlife and habitats, as well as special events, programs and hikes

The main duty of this volunteer will be to answer questions about the building and construction of the Center, the exhibits and the surrounding Preserve, current programs and their times, and general hours of operation. This position will be performed at the information desk in the Exhibits Hall.

Weedon Island Preserve Needs Weekend Warriors

Do you have what it takes to be a Weekend Warrior?
If so, Weedon Island Preserve could put your talent to good use. The preserve’s cultural and natural history center is looking for people to serve as volunteer reception, information and education assistants on the weekends. You can serve on a regular or on-call basis.

Volunteering as a “weekend warrior” is a perfect way for working adults to have some fun while giving valuable assistance to the staff at Weedon Island Preserve. It’s also a great way to introduce volunteering to your kids.

As a reception, information or education assistant, you will greet visitors and provide them with information about the preserve. Candidates should enjoy working with students and adults alike. Prior education is not required, but applicants should have an interest in nature and prehistoric culture. The ability to communicate is essential to these positions. On-site training is provided.

Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center is open Wednesday through Sunday and is located at 1800 Weedon Drive NE in St. Petersburg.

At Weedon Island Preserve we need volunteers to fill the following shifts:

If you enjoy ecology, prehistory and the interaction through time of early people and their environment, this is a great opportunity to provide valuable assistance at the new Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center.

Handles a variety of projects related to administration and maintenance within a designated County park. POSITION: Volunteering with Pinellas County - 4H

DUTIES:
4-H volunteer

4-H Logo.Share the joys of investing in Pinellas County’s youth as a 4-H Afterschool volunteer. The program involves working with children ages 8 to 12. The nine-week program teaches kids the importance of finances, proper food nutrition, physical fitness and more.

Volunteers are only required to serve one hour a week with children and to give one hour of preparation. Days, times and locations are tailored to the individual’s needs. All materials and training are provided. This program fits the criteria for paid administrative leave for county and many city employee volunteer opportunities. A county background check and orientation are required.

4-H is part of the informal education system of the Pinellas County Extension and is designed to develop the “head, heart, hands and health” of Florida’s youths. For more information on 4-H Afterschool, contact Karen Saley at (727) 582-2100.
