Do You Know About Vision Pinellas?

The Board of County Commissioners and County Administration led an intensive effort from 2004 to 2006 to create a workable strategic plan that would give direction, focus and priority to the issues that face Pinellas County. The resulting plan now serves as a compass to guide entire organization.

Six strategic focus areas were selected for study

• Effective Government
• Economic Development, Redevelopment and Housing
• Public Safety
• Environment, Open Space, Recreation and Culture
• Transportation, Utilities and Storm Water
• Health and Human Services

Each strategic focus area has a business plan that provides detail about goals and strategies.

This includes identifying the department(s) tasked with the strategy, a time frame for implementation, deliverable(s) if any, and related performance measures.

Why did we do this?

Pinellas County government, as an organization, seeks to better anticipate and respond to economic, social and technological changes that are coming more frequently in today’s modern world. Successful organizations are the ones who remain flexible and open to new concepts. Today’s changes are also more complex and demand a comprehensive, integrated approach with distinct solutions.

Taxpayers expect nothing less from their government, and neither do we. As a government organization, we take this responsibility seriously and employees at all levels are committed to quality public service.

What do we hope to gain?

The Vision Pinellas Strategic Plan will help Pinellas County to:

• Provide a compass that will help us chart the course of our future over the next five years.
• Give us a framework to understand the big picture and everything fits together.
• Help us focus on both BCC and citizen priority goals and strategies.
• Give us a new way of approaching things by strategic focus areas and not by individual departments.
