In the first year of the program (2004-2005), Pinellas
County public schools recycled over 3.3 million pounds
(1,661 tons). Last year, the public schools recycled over
3.6 million pounds (1,815 tons). These efforts represent
significant pollution prevention and savings of trees,
water, energy, and disposal capacity—plus avoided
