Capri Isle Water Main Replacement Project

Q: What is the Capri Isle 16” & 24” Water Main Replacement Project and why is it necessary?
A: The purpose of the Capri Isle 16” & 24” Water Main Replacement Project is to replace aging and deteriorating potable water mains. When completed, the benefits will include improvements in water quality and pressure to the southern beaches and a reduction in main breakages.

Q: In what area(s) of the County will the construction take place?

A: Construction will take place on Capri Isle in the City of Treasure Island. The majority of work will take place in the right-of-way of 2nd Street, north of 116th Avenue up to Key Capri.

Q: When will the construction start, and how long will it take to complete?
A: Construction on the water main replacement project is expected to start mid- March 2007 and be completed late August 2007.

Q. During the project, will the potable water service be interrupted?
A. Yes, minor service interruptions can be expected. However, affected residents will be notified prior to scheduled service interruptions.

Q. How will it affect the residents and visitors in the Treasure Island area?
A. Traffic on Gulf Boulevard will be unaffected. Detours will be implemented on Capri Isle throughout construction.

Q. What about dust, noise, and safety issues?
A. Noise and dust can be expected due to the construction activities. Measures will be in place to minimize these temporary inconveniences. Work zone safety will be in effect at all times during construction of the project.

Q: Will streets be closed for any period of time?
A. Yes, there will be road closures with detours in place on Capri Isle throughout construction. Temporary lane closures with flagmen for one-way traffic will occasionally be used during normal working hours.

Q. How will it affect the users of the ball fields located south of the pump station?
A. A portion of 2nd Street in the vicinity of the water tanks will be closed for pipe installation. Detours will be in place with access to residences and the ball field maintained.

Q. When completed, how will this project benefit the residents of Pinellas County?
A. This project will provide a new, more efficient potable water pipeline that will improve water quality and water pressure for residents of Treasure Island and the southern beaches for many years to come.
