Pinellas County Utilities officials are urgently requesting an immediate reduction in reclaimed water usage in south Pinellas County. Demand on the system has reached a critical stage with usage equaling or exceeding production.

Utilities officials have advised that if the high usage levels continue, the entire system will have to be shut down. The south county system is currently shut down from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day; however, the reclaimed water system continues to experience heavy demand.

The status of the system will be closely monitored to determine if voluntary reductions are working.

Conservation Tips:

• Over-watering can actually damage a Florida lawn and prevent a deep, drought-tolerant root system from being established.
• Over-watering promotes weed growth and excessive thatch.
• Make sure your sprinklers water your lawn, not your driveway, road or sidewalk.
