Water Use Affecting North County Reclaimed Water Supply
Conservation Critical to Avoid Zone Control

June 6, 2008

Pinellas County Utilities officials are requesting north county reclaimed water customers to limit irrigation. If reclaimed water use is not immediately and substantially reduced, it will be necessary to implement zone control for north county customers. Continued dry conditions have dramatically increased consumption of the county’s reclaimed water resources as residents attempt to maximize irrigation of lawns and landscapes. As a result, the county’s reclaimed water system is being stressed beyond its limit.

The status of the system will be closely monitored to determine if voluntary reductions are working.

Conservation Tips:

  • Over-watering can actually damage a Florida lawn and prevent a deep, drought-tolerant root system from being established.
  • Over-watering promotes weed growth and excessive thatch.
  • Make sure your sprinklers water your lawn, not your driveway, road or sidewalk.
  • For more information, call (727) 464-4000, press "0" and tell the representative, "I want a healthy lawn" or visit www.pinellascounty.org/utilities
