Pinellas County, Fla – The South County reclaimed water system has returned to normal operation. No longer operating under demand management, all restrictions have been lifted. The system has stabilized, with demand no longer exceeding production.

The localized rains have boosted storage and reduced the demand on the reclaimed water system. The system is expected to remain at normal operation, but its status is subject to rainfall and demand.

In accordance with Southwest Florida Water Management District guidelines, watering is discouraged during the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. to minimize evaporation. Utilities officials urge customers to continue to conserve our valuable reclaimed water resource by irrigating wisely and efficiently.

Customers are asked to leave their irrigation system timers at their current settings and irrigate on an every other day basis. This strategy may enable us to avoid having to return to limited availability whenever we experience extended dry periods during the year. The key to having sufficient reclaimed water for each of our customers to maintain a healthy lawn is to avoid having all of our customers utilizing reclaimed water on the same days at the same time of day.

Conservation Tips:
• Over-watering can actually damage a Florida lawn and prevent a deep, drought-tolerant root system from being established.
• Over-watering promotes dollarweed, chinch bug damage and excessive thatch.
