Urgent Reclaimed Water Reduction Needed
South County Experiencing Critically High Demand

May 23, 2007

Pinellas County, Fla—Pinellas County Utilities officials are urgently requesting an immediate voluntary reduction in reclaimed water usage in south Pinellas County. Demand on the system has reached a critical stage with outflows equaling or exceeding production.

Utilities officials have advised that if the high usage levels continue, the entire system will have to be shut down between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. daily, possibly as soon as Friday, May 25. Watering is currently discouraged during these hours however; the reclaimed water system continues to experience heavy demand during this timeframe.

The affected areas include all the Gulf Beaches from Tierra Verde to Sand Key; 78th Avenue North to 66th Avenue North between 113th Street North and Boca Ciega Bay; Park Boulevard to 54th Avenue North between Cross Bayou and 66th Street North; Tamarac By The Gulf and Seminole Lakes Golf and Country Club Estates.

Conservation Tips:
• Over watering can actually damage a Florida lawn and prevent a deep, drought-tolerant root system from being established.
• Over watering promotes dollarweed, chinch bug damage and excessive thatch.
• For more information, call (727) 464-4000, press “0” and tell the representative, “I want a healthy lawn.”
