CONTACT INFORMATION: A Recipe for Humbug-free HolidaysNovember 22, 2006 Don’t let the ghost of holiday cooking past come back to haunt you in the year to come. With Thanksgiving upon us, and holiday cooking kicking into high gear, Pinellas County Utilities would like to remind you to dispose of cooking oil and grease properly. Be good, for goodness sake, and don’t dump it down the drain! Your home’s plumbing is only meant to handle water, and like any artery, public sewer lines are also susceptible to clogging. No one needs to add backed-up plumbing to their holiday to-do list. After cooling, pour grease and fat into a disposable container, wrap it in a plastic bag to reduce odor, and place it in the trash. For large amounts of cooking oil, Pinellas County’s Hazardous Electronics and Chemical Waste Collection Center (HEC3) accepts drop-offs for free. So, whether your holiday recipes call for a teaspoon, or a gallon of oil, be kind to your plumbing and dispose of your cooking oil and grease properly. For more information, contact Solid Waste Operations at (727) 464-7500.
