Pinellas County Utilities Hazardous Waste Diversion Program
Free and Convenient Makes It a Winner

June 21, 2006

Haz to Go trailerDid you drive up and drop off hazardous electronics and chemicals at one of Pinellas County Utilities Mobile Collection events? Has your condo or homeowners’ association or place of business sponsored a mini-mobile collection using the Haz-to-Go trailer with its eye-catching vehicle wrap? Have you picked up items for reuse from a selection of household chemical products available at the Swap Shop? If so, then you were part of ever increasing number of residents who benefited from the County’s award winning Hazardous Waste Diversion Program. Its emphasis on FREE and CONVENIENT for residents makes the program a winner.

The Hazardous Waste Diversion Program has won multiple awards from professional waste reduction associations. At its recent annual conference, the Recycle Florida Today (RFT) organization presented its “Outstanding Urban Recycling Program” award to Pinellas County Utilities Hazardous Waste Diversion Program.

Because we are faced with an ever increasing amount of unused household chemicals and electronics, you probably can take advantage of one or more of the five components to the Hazardous Waste Diversion Program:

  • the permanent Household Electronics and Chemical Collection Center (HEC3)
  • a Swap Shop located at the HEC3
  • a Household Electronics and Chemical Mobile Collection Program (18 Saturday events from September through May held at locations throughout the County)
  • the Haz-to-Go Mini-Mobile Collection Trailer
  • an EnviroBusiness Waste Collection Program

People moving in or out of their current residences are finding the hazardous waste diversion program extremely helpful.
