According to the Southwest Florida Water Management District, outdoor water use typically accounts for up to 50 percent of water consumed by households.

Properly designed and installed irrigation systems use water more efficiently. A sprinkler system can cost the typical Tampa Bay area resident from $4 to $10 every time it operates. Still, some studies indicate that up to 30% of outdoor irrigation is wasted.

hoseConsider this…
A 3/4 inch garden hose used for 15 minutes uses 132 gallons of water.
An irrigation system applying 1 inch of water a week to 1,000 sq. ft. uses 624 gallons of water.

Device Savings

  • Automatic shutoff nozzle 5-10%
  • Automatic rain shut off 5-10%
  • Improved programming of automatic irrigation system controllers 5-10%
  • Drip irrigation for non-turf areas 25-75%

Want A Healthy Lawn? healthy lawn flyer

  • Keep your grass at least 3-4 inches high in between mowings.
  • Make sure your sprinklers water your lawn, not the driveway and street.
  • Use 2-3 inches deep mulch around trees and flowerbeds.
  • Check and repair leaking sprinkler heads.
  • Sweep your driveway and sidewalk rather than hose them off.
  • Follow your local irrigation schedule
