Sponsorship
Description: The Department of
Environmental Management (DEM) is seeking
sponsor(s) to underwrite the cost of World Rivers Day FEST at Brooker Creek Preserve on September 30, 2006 from 10:00am - 4:00pm. The inaugural event attracted over 700 visitors last year.
The Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center (BCPEEC) is honoring the international “World Rivers Day” with a FEST designed to highlight the many values of our waterways at Brooker Creek Preserve. The FEST promotes our area waterways and offers practical ideas and materials to make a difference in citizens’ homes and in the community. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience the Creek and Preserve up-close during the grand opening of our new trail system. Over four miles of natural trails, with boardwalks connecting to the BCPEEC, will officially open.
Specific FEST activities include water-friendly practices and product demonstrations, live music, food and drinks, the Nature Store, and 22 interactive exhibits. A kid’s corner featuring stories, games, crafts, live music shows, and live river animals provides hands-on activities for youngsters. A free, water-friendly care package for the first 200 attendees is planned. Visitors also have the opportunity to explore the Preserve’s new 4-miles of hiking trails through guided hikes. This event is free and open to the public.
Water conservation, sustainability and green-living practices are the focus of the FEST. In 2003, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the years 2005 – 2015 as the International Decade for Action “Water for Life.” The primary goal of the “Water for Life” Decade is to promote efforts to fulfill international commitments made on water and water-related issues by 2015. “‘World Rivers Day” is an event organized around the world that supports the “Water for Life” Decade vision.
