Want to uncover the secrets to gardening the Florida-Friendly way?

Join us January 19, January 26, February 2, February 16, and February 23, 2010 for a gardening series that will put success right at your fingertips. This useful information will help gardeners dig right into improving landscape design and maintenance.

In this third in a series, experienced landscape designers will show you how to get started designing a landscape that is friendly to Florida’s environment as well as aesthetically pleasing.

You will receive materials and instructions you need to get started with designing your special garden. Participants may bring their plans to the next class, Landscape Design Clinic on February 16, to have them reviewed by instructors and get your questions answered.

This program is designed to provide training in Best Management Practices for anyone working in the lawn, landscape, pest control, or municipal ground areas. It is focused on reducing non-point source pollution resulting from fertilization or pesticide application. BMP certification will be awarded to those passing the exam.

This class is offered at no cost to, Pinellas County Employees, Pinellas County School Board Employees, and Pinellas County Master Gardener Volunteers. Identification must be provided on the day of class to attend this class for free. A maximum of 4 CEUs can be earned by attending this class. Attendees will earn 2 CORE and may select their 2 additional CEUs from: Pvt. App. Ag., O&T, LL&O, LCLM, or Comm. L&O.

How safe is your child care facility? Providing a comprehensive and sustainable environment for children is part of the greening of childcare in our community.

A green child care facility is environmentally friendly. It is energy efficient, practices recycling, provides healthy snacks and uses environmentally preferable products to optimize indoor air quality. It also involves the children in the greening of their schools, giving them the tools and knowledge they need to lead sustainable lives and promote green practices in their communities.

The presenters will include Vestina Crayton, Pinellas County Extension Specialist; Dr. Lisa Koche, director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Tampa General and owner of Spectra Medical, a nationally recognized practice in the study of obesity; Natalya Calleja, head of the Green Consulting Firm LLC and event organizer; Stan Stoudenmire, environmental specialist with the Pinellas County Health Department; David Angel, vice president of ACI Facility Maintenance Inc.; and Bill Muller, Certified Green Consultant and energy auditor. The program is presented by Pinellas County Extension University of Florida/IFAS, the Pinellas County Health Department, Florida Botanical Gardens, Green Consulting Firm LLC, and Early Learning Coalition.
