This program is designed to provide training in Best Management Practices for anyone working in the lawn, landscape, pest control, or municipal ground areas. It is focused on reducing non-point source pollution resulting from fertilization or pesticide application.

This class is offered at no cost to, Pinellas County Employees, Pinellas County School Board Employees, and Pinellas County Master Gardener Volunteers. Identification must be provided on the day of class to attend this class for free.

A maximum of 4 CEUS can be earned by attending this class. Attendees must select 2 CORE, 2 Pvt. App. Ag., 2 O&T, 2 LL&O, 2LCLM, or 2 Comm. L&O.

This class will give all participants the ability to hatch chicks either at home or in a classroom. All participants will receive the appropriate teacher guide for their age group program. Information on sources of fertile eggs will be available.

  • Week 2 (September 24th): The poultry industry, hatching, and brooding.

This class provides the training and testing necessary to obtain a limited Commercial Landscape Maintenance or Limited Lawn and Ornamental license.

A completed application with picture, proof of insurance and a check for $150 made out to DACS must be brought with you the day of the class. Please study materials beforehand so you are prepared to take the test. Be sure to print off a copy of the Florida statutes, Administrative code and Best Management Practices (BMP) for Protection of Water Resources in Florida (the free BMP manual is also available at the Extension Service office) as these are part of the study materials.

The study manuals are only available thru the IFAS bookstore and will cost you $27 plus shipping. If paying with a credit card, it takes about 4-5 business days to receive them.


This class is offered at no cost to Pinellas County Employees, Pinellas County Schoolboard Employees, and Pinellas County Master Gardener Volunteers. Identification must be provided on the day of class to attend for free.

Do you think composting is complicated?

Join Master Gardener John Kingsbury for this informative workshop to learn how easy it can be. Just add your kitchen scraps to your yard clippings and compost happens! Adding compost to Florida’s sandy soil provides much-needed organic material and improves its water-holding capacity.

Attendees will have an opportunity to win one of several compost bins to be given away by a drawing at the end of the class. The bins are provided by Pinellas County Utilities Solid Waste Operations Department.
