Public Works / Transportation and Stormwater – Manages street and bridge maintenance, traffic engineering and traffic management divisions, along with the functions of vegetation, mosquito, tree management, coastal and watershed management.
- Traffic Engineering & Technical Support:
- Engineering Design provides design for roadways, bridges, drainage systems, water and sewage systems. This work includes renovations, rehabilitation, extensions and facility expansions. Work also includes engineering support to other departments.
- Construction Management provides inspection services for infrastructural improvements within developments, subdivisions and capital improvement projects.
- Land Survey & Mapping prepares construction plans associated with capital improvement projects. They also maintain as-builts (schematic) maps of Utility System. Custodian of historical plans (record drawings) and does various graphic arts work required by others.

- Traffic Management:
- Manages street and bridge maintenance, the preparation of construction documents for numerous County projects. The structural component includes bridges, signal mast arms, nonstandard drainage structures, retaining walls, and other items requiring structural design. Oversight of these designs is then provided throughout the construction of the projects.
- Operates and maintains more than 300 traffic signals for 22 municipalities. This includes determining where traffic signals should be located, how each signal operates and whether additional movements are necessary to provide the safest and most efficient operation.
- Accepts requests from citizens for modifications to signals and handles complaints and concerns relative to the operation and timing of signals. Traffic signals are reevaluated on a 3 to 5 year rotation to ensure they are operating as intended.
- Including traffic signals, emergency signals, school flashers and other electrical traffic control devices the traffic signal shop maintains more than 375 different locations countywide. The signal shop also maintains more than 500 street lights and 225 emergency fire traffic system preemption devices. The Traffic Management Division also maintains all ITS devices, including CCTV cameras, fiber optic cable and DMS.
- Coastal Management: The long-term management of the county’s coastline involves shore protection programs, dune enhancements, monitoring and extensive partnering with state and federal agencies. Oversight also includes the county’s waterways and the boating regulatory zones

There are 12 beach municipalities on the Pinellas County barrier islands. They are responsible for short-term maintenance such as raking and cleaning, swim buoys and local ordinances regarding the use of the beaches. - Mosquito Control:
Services all of Pinellas County including municipalities, provides for an environment as free of mosquitoes as possible for the comfort and well being of the public. It monitors the environment for the presence of any mosquito-transmitted diseases and takes proper abatement actions. Mosquito Control uses an integrated pest management program, focusing on source reduction. This division also provides educational presentations to the general public. - Vegetation Management:
Controls aquatic weeds in the County's ponds, canals, ditches, and creeks. This division also provides chemical spraying of the right-of-way, mitigated and planted stormwater sites, and harvesting and removal of weeds.- Lake Management:
Controls exotic vegetation in the County's public lakes, canals, major drainage, and selected ponds. This program analyzes sites for improvements that will raise the level of service, and improve water quality and biodiversity. Educational presentations are provided by this division.

- Urban Forestry:
Urban Forestry provides the cyclic maintenance of tree canopies using International Society of Arboriculture and American National Standards Institute Best Management Practices by pruning trees for the overall health and structure of the tree, while maintaining height and sight requirements as governed by FDOT and County standards. (Please note: For unincorporated Pinellas residences and businesses locations only.) - Watershed / Stormwater Management:
Constructs and maintains the waterways and drainage structures within the County's jurisdiction, including performance of street sweeping, and maintenance of canals, lakes, ditches, and culverts. This division maintains stormwater facilities in an aesthetically-pleasing condition and in compliance with the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFWMD) and Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) permits.
