At age 50, the Belleair Beach Causeway Bridge
has exceeded its life expectancy and needs to
be replaced. After working with neighborhoods
close to the bridge, Pinellas County decided on
a slightly more northern alignment for the new
bridge. The next step for the causeway bridge
is to determine whether it should be designed
as a medium or high drawbridge or a high fixed-span
bridge. The Project Video, as shown in the November
19, 2002 Board of County Commissioners meeting
described this stage prior to the bridge profile
public meeting on this project.
The
Board of County Commissioners is expected to make
a decision in early 2003 with construction beginning
in spring 2005. Additional
