Public Safety Services - Saving Lives...wit a dual Response EMS System

arrow Medical Protocol

EMS in Pinellas County is a single, unified, countywide program, with medical oversight provided by the Office of the Medical Director. Both fire department and Sunstar emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics operate under the medical license of this medical doctor. Both crews utilize the same equipment, they follow the same medical protocol and they undergo the same continuing training.

In the field, crews are in constant communications with the Office of the Medical Director and have access to the doctor on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

With a touch of a button on their radios, both fire department and Sunstar crews can establish instant communication for recommendations on delivery of medications or other interventions called for by a particular medical incident. Medical questions are answered by a medical doctor for superior medical care.
