Safety & Emergency Services
Safety & Emergency Services coordinates a diverse set of programs geared towards ensuring effective and efficient public safety for residents and visitors within Pinellas County. The department works to provide significant support – operational, technology and funding – to fire, EMS and law enforcement agencies. The Department manages these functions through various divisions, each with a specific role. Safety & Emergency Services works closely with public safety agencies to ensure successful collaboration throughout the county.
Safety & Emergency Services provides this support through each of the following divisions:
- Ambulance Billing
Pinellas County provides the Ambulance Billing for each Sunstar ambulance transport. Our customer service representatives at Sunstar are very knowledgeable and experienced in the procedures to file a claim.
- Emergency Management
Provides emergency information to the public. Develops and implements comprehensive emergency planning response, mitigation and recovery activities in order to save lives and protect property in emergencies. Technical assistance is available to develop and maintain emergency plans for all types of hazards.
We strongly encourage and support the individual municipalities and Special Fire Control Districts to develop local Emergency Management programs.
- Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
To meet the emergency medical needs of more than one million residents and visitors, Pinellas County employs a unique all paramedic, first response and ambulance system of Advanced Life Support emergency care and patient transportation.
- Fire Administration
Fire protection is provided by municipal and independent special district fire departments serving the citizens and visitors of Pinellas County. Every fire department within Pinellas County has entered into a written Automatic Aid Agreement, which ensures the closest unit responds to all emergency fire or EMS calls, regardless of location or jurisdiction.
- Radio and Technology
Radio & Technology supports all public safety agencies with access to a regional radio system, computer-aided dispatch systems and other technology to support first responders.
- Regional 9-1-1
The Pinellas County Communications Center operates as the single primary public safety answering point for all 9-1-1 calls originating in the County.
The Pinellas Regional 911 Center is hiring individuals who desire a professional career in public service answering calls involving life-threatening crises and other public safety situations. Applications for law enforcement telecommunicators must be submitted by Sunday, Feb. 26.
