At approximately 8,700 acres, Brooker Creek Preserve is a significant conservation area in the northeastern corner of Pinellas County, where the management of its natural resources (including the protection of its potable water supply) is a priority. The preserve was established in the early 1990s with almost 2,800 additional acres acquired since that time. It is owned by Pinellas County government and Southwest Florida Water Management District but is managed by Parks and Conservation Resources.
Brooker Creek Preserve Management Plan is the initial planning document that details resource assessment, restoration projects, resource-based recreation, and supporting supplemental information. An updated draft of the plan was distributed in May 2008. The Friends of Brooker Creek Preserve, Inc., the county's Environmental Science Forum, other affiliated groups and interested citizens provided feedback at four public meetings. On August 26, 2008, the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners approved the Brooker Creek Preserve Management Plan 2008 Update.
