Pinellas
County agencies have been working closely to
effectively manage sex
offender and predator populations. Using
automated notification and placement tools designed
and implemented by Pinellas
County Government, agencies are
able to quickly conduct analyses to efficiently
adhere to statutory requirements. This tool
performs distance analysis from offender residence
to provide a list of locations for notification
or that pose a potential violation. This application
has been highly successful, and has received
a great deal of recognition.
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Sexual
Predator / Offender Tracking Unit (S.P.O.T.)
tracks sexual predators and offenders in Pinellas
County. The unit also registers sex offenders
as needed. This tool has been implemented
at the Pinellas
County Sheriff's Office (PCSO)
to help keep additional information needed by
law enforcement. The S.P.O.T. database,
enables the PCSO to maintain detailed offender
records and to manage to offender oversight.
The system is used by the PCSO Sex Offender
and Predator Tracking Unit (SPOT Unit) as a
coordinated approach to sex offender management.
