Wait on the curb before crossing the street.

WALK:Look both ways. Proceed safely across the street.

 

DON'T WALK: Make no attempt to cross the street when the DON'T WALK sign is lit.

 
FLASHING DON'T WALK: If the flashing DON'T WALK signal comes on while you are crossing the street- DON'T PANIC- finish crossing in a safe manner. DO NOT start crossing the street from the curb if the signal is flashing, for there is not enough time to cross safely.
Seven Steps to Pedestrian Safety:
1. Be Alert:

Watch all cars carefully.


2. Make Yourself More Visible and Noticeable:

Use the new practice of an outstretched arm to sign to a motorist you are about to cross the road. Wear bright colored clothing during the day and light or reflective clothing at night. Carry a flashlight in thedark.

3. Walk on the Left Side, Facing Traffic:

If you must walk along a roadway with no sidewalk.

4.Be Aware of TurningTraffic:

Make certain eye contact is made with the driver before crossing in front of a waiting car.

5.Never Step into the Road from Behind a Parked Car or Other Obstacle.

` 6. Cross the Street with a Group When Possible: A group is easier to see than just one person.

7. Cross Only at Designated Crosswalks: Many busy intersections have Pedestrian Crossing Signals which make crossing the street safer if they are used properly.
