Watch out for Cars!

IT'S ALWAYS WISE TO:

OBEY ALL TRAFFIC LAWS and regulations, including speed limits and all other road signs.

REALIZE that advance pedestrian or school crosswalk signs signify a crosswalk ahead in which the pedestrian has the right-of-way.

SEVEN DRIVING TIPS FOR MOTORISTS

1. ALWAYS YIELD to pedestrians and bicyclists at crosswalks

( marked and unmarked ) especially if turning right on red.

2. REDUCE SPEED when you pass a bicyclist and give three feet of passing space between your vehicle and the bicyclist.

3. WATCH CHILDREN. Children can be unpredictable as pedestrians and bicyclists. Slow down in schools, parks and residential areas.

4. LOOK FOR PEDESTRIANS crossing from all directions when turning at an intersection, with or without a signal.

5. STOP BEHIND THE STOP BAR at intersections, not in the crosswalk, so pedestrians can cross the street safely.

6. DON'T BLAST YOUR HORN when approaching bicyclists, you could startle them and cause them to swerve or fall.

7. NEVER DRINK AND DRIVE. Elect a designated driver BEFORE getting into a vehicle.

BE ALERT. Never assume the movements of pedestrians and other drivers. Check intersections before entering. Look for pedestrians who are following the new practice of using an outstretched arm to signal they are crossing the street.

ALWAYS SIGNAL before changing lanes or making a turn.

DEMONSTRATE GOOD SCANNING HABITS at all times and anticipate possible braking situations.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTION. Make sure the way is clear behind your vehicle before backing up in a roadway, driveway, or parking lot.
