The MPO cares for your safety. One of our goals is to help provide safe and convenient bicycle and pedestrian travel facilities. These include bicycle and pedestrian recreation and commuter travel, which will in turn enhance community livability.

Given the moderate average temperatures and terrain, our county is the perfect location for those who choose to bicycle and walk.

The MPO's safety programs address issues facing Pinellas County and establish goals through its Pedestrian Transportation Advisory Committee and Bicycle Advisory Committee. The Comprehensive approach set forth is based on the four "E's":

1. Education: Training pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists to coexist safely through education programs.

2. Enforcement: Improving the behavior of bicyclists, pedestrians and motorists through effective enforcement of Florida law.

3. Engineering: Providing support facilities necessary on a safer road system and enhanced environment through physical improvements.

4. Encouragement: Promoting increased walking and bicycle use as alternative forms of transportation.
