a. Commissioner Latvala related that she will be sworn in as President of the Florida Association of Counties (FAC) at its conference next week.
b. Commissioner Harris noted that BCC members appointed to serve on the PSTA will miss the first meeting due to the FAC conference; announced that time is running out for the low-flow toilet rebate program; cautioned consumers regarding lawn service contracts and indicated that information is available from the Department of Justice and Consumer Services.
c. Commissioner Seel indicated that she has been contacted regarding a proposed commission for women’s advocacy; and noted that several existing organizations are or will be addressing the same issues.
d. Commissioner Duncan reported on his attendance at the Workforce Housing Summit held by the Upper Tampa Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce and at the 2006 Annual Forum between the United States and Spain Council; and related that Pinellas County will match a $150,000 U.S. Department of Environmental Protection grant to reduce school bus emissions.
e. Chairman Welch announced that the Drug Paraphernalia Abatement Task Force has concluded its work and will present its recommendations at the June 22 BCC work session; reported on the Pinellas Living Green Expo held last weekend; and expressed condolences to City of Oldsmar Mayor Jerry Beverland and his family for their loss.
