New Leader Transition
When a senior manager is new to an organization or work unit, expectations and concerns of the manager and his/her direct reports need to be addressed to foster communication and rapport within this emerging leadership team. Without special attention to making this happen, the team may encounter needless difficulties.
- Purpose:
- To provide the new leader a clear picture of his/her organization
- To clarify priorities, expectations, and concerns of the top leadership team
- To help the new leader get acquainted with his/her subordinate leaders
- To provide a format for the new leader to express his/her philosophy about work and the organization
- Use When:
- The incoming leader is unknown to the organization
- Breaks in organizational continuity are unacceptable
- Little time is available for sorting and identifying problems
- Inaccurate information about the new leader has preceded his/her arrival
- The outgoing leader has been doing an outstanding job
- Leadership style differences exist between the old and the new leader
- Who should attend:
Incoming leader, direct reports of leader, any other members of the top team.

Department Team Building
Departments can improve communication, morale, and team collaboration through a series of activities to review their current workplace dynamics followed by working together to adopt more beneficial interactions.
The series of activities includes group focus sessions and individual interviews designed to elicit a description of problem areas and suggestions to solve them. Goal setting sessions help the group establish action plans.
