Status
of Homelessness |
State of Florida:

There are 76,675 homeless people in Florida
and beds/programs for only 12 percent of them.

Eighty-three percent of the jobs with the most
growth in Florida pay less than the living
wage. Fifty-two percent of such jobs in Florida
pay less than half the living wage.
Pinellas
County:
-
On any given night, there are more than 4,000 homeless people in our
community. These are men, women, and children who, for whatever
reason, have no place
to live.

30% suffer from alcohol/drug abuse

32% suffer from mental illness

victims of domestic violence
While
counting the homeless population is a complex
process and difficult to accomplish with limited
resources, the annual survey conducted on January
26, 2004 by the Pinellas County Coalition for
the Homeless found 4,000 people to be homeless
on this date using HUD’s definition of homelessness.
Of these, 840 were children under the age of
18.
