The Structures at Heritage Village:

As you walk through the pine and palmetto landscape, you are really walking through the museum! The buildings and other features make up the Village’s largest “artifacts” and are part of the museum’s “collection.”

Within the grounds of Heritage Village is the Pinellas County Historical Museum.  The Museum’s exhibits traces the history of Pinellas County through temporary, changing exhibits as well as exhibits dealing with four interpretive themes: coastal living, tourism, agriculture and community life.

The Museum also has a 3, 500-volume library and archives containing historic photographs, maps and other materials relating to the history of Pinellas County.

Special Exhibits

Turner House Artifacts:
Geraldine “Jere” Turner bequeathed her family home to Pinellas County, along with $100,000 in moving costs and the contents of the 1915 bungalow. When it was moved to Heritage Village in January 2014, thousands of objects and archival materials spanning 100 years of family history were discovered in the house, most in excellent condition. These included toys and games, glassware and china, personal accessories, pottery, clothing, furniture, artwork and items from the Belleview Biltmore Hotel. See these objects and many more on display in the Ralph Reed Gallery in the Visitor Center!

Pinellas Passport:
Illustrates major areas of development in Pinellas County, including coastal living with a focus on the sponge industry; agriculture featuring citrus industry artifacts; community life through newspapers and a printing press; and tourism, showcasing souvenirs and once-popular roadside attraction icons. See these objects and many more on display in the Roy Helms Gallery in the Visitor Center!

Living History Demonstrations:
Some of the living history demonstrations and hands-on activities you might encounter during your stroll through the Village include pine needle and palm frond weaving, laundry day, working in the heritage garden, rope making, net mending, blacksmithing, traditional fiber arts and pioneer cooking.
