- 2014 - Pinellas County Earns Honors for Green Efforts
In 2014, the Florida Green Building Coalition recognized Pinellas County with a Green Achievement Award for taking top honors as the highest scoring county. Eligibility is based upon those local governments which achieved certification during the prior year. Pinellas County is one of 10 local governments within the county that participates in the FGBC program and is the only Gold certified local government in the county. Among the 73 local governments participating in the FBGC program, Pinellas County is the 4th highest scoring local government statewide.
Winners were announced at the Green Trends conference in Sarasota and the award was presented to the BCC by FGBC coordinator Suzanne Cook.
- 2013 - Gold Green Local Government - Pinellas County Goes Gold!
In 2013, Pinellas County Government was awarded the Gold Green Local Government certification by the Florida Green Building Coalition.
Pinellas County was the first county in the state to be certified in 2006 at the Silver level and the first county to be re-certified in 2013. This certification program recognizes the county’s commitment to sustainable government operations that create a vibrant community for its residents. The county’s leadership helps to conserve the community’s natural resources, enhance government efficiency, and raise public awareness about the benefits of stewardship. Among many programs and policies examined, the county evaluated energy and water use, recycling and waste disposal, educational programs, and land use policies to improve the sustainability of business practices and operations.
