Water Resources Environmental Program Coordinator:

This position is responsible for both technical and administrative management of the Water Resources Management Section and its programs.  This involves planning, coordination and supervision of water monitoring and management projects and studies, technical review and professional scientific interpretation of ecological data.

Job Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development of surface water and watershed study plans and water monitoring plans. This includes plans for physical, chemical and biological monitoring
  • Responsible for implementation of surface water and watershed studies and monitoring programs by section staff or through the use of contractors
  • Provides technical and scientific interpretations and advice to other sections, divisions and departments, including review of study plans and monitoring results
  • Provides liaison with scientific and administrative personnel from other county, municipal, state and federal agencies in matters pertaining to water quality, water management, aquatic and marine wildlife, environmental impacts, and data management
  • Contributes to development of division and department policy
  • Participates in the development of watershed management plans, including participation in committees, coordination of work done by consultants, presentation and interpretation of study results, and correspondence with other participants
  • Responsible for collection of monitor well samples associated with the County's underground fuel storage tanks, and reporting of results to the Department of Fleet Management
  • Represents the department in public speaking engagements, including media appearances
  • Prepares, or supervises preparation of reports of study results
  • Responsible for storage, retrieval, analysis, distribution, and maintenance of water data collected by the county, or submitted to the county by others
  • Prepares, or supervises preparation of requests for consulting services and participates in selection of consultants
  • Participate in and contribute to scientific meetings and conferences on behalf of the department, including making formal presentations of study results
  • Responsible for maintaining the department's library of books, journals, reprints, and other documents pertaining to water quality management
  • Responsible for coordinating analysis of water samples by county laboratories or other laboratories
  • Recommends purchases of scientific and other equipment, books, and other materials and tracks section budget to ensure available funds
  • Responsible for maintenance and calibration of scientific equipment by section staff in accordance with approves quality control procedures
  • Responsible for adherence to approved Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance guidelines by section staff
  • Reviews and approves reports, letters, memoranda, and other documents prepared by the section
  • Trains section employees, and employees of other sections, as needed
  • Evaluates performance of subordinates
  • Interviews and recommends hiring of employees
