Education Centers

The Environmental Lands Division (ELD) manages two award-winning educational centers: Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center in Tarpon Springs and Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center in St. Petersburg. Educational programming focuses on empowering citizens to make sound management decisions for the County's natural and cultural resources. The Centers provide educational programs, interactive exhibits, specialty hikes, guided canoe tours, and other activities to the visiting public. Come visit us!

Funded by the Penny for Pinellas, Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center opened in June 2004. This state-of-the-art Center is nestled along the banks of Brooker Creek and offers residents and visitors opportunities to experience, discover and understand how we are connected to our natural environment.  In addition, the Center programs focus on the importance of conserving and managing our limited natural resources.

Twenty-two interactive exhibits, hands-on workshops, invited speakers, guided hikes, and featured artist exhibitions all await discovery. A 4-mile hiking trail enhanced by 15 interpretative trail signs along a 0.7-mile boardwalk and upland trail loop is accessible from the Center complex. Visitors can also research a specific environmental topic in the Resource Center.
