EMS Study and Recommendations
In July 2013, Fitch & Associates completed a comprehensive review and analysis of the Pinellas County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system. The consultant concluded that the system is “widely regarded as one of the most clinically sophisticated EMS Systems in North America” and only minor improvements should be implemented. Fitch affirmed the importance and utilization of both local Fire/Rescue units providing Paramedic level First Response and the countywide Paramedic level Ambulance Service, Sunstar Paramedics.
The Board of County Commissioners instructed staff to develop a multi-year interlocal agreement with Cities and Fire Districts for Paramedic First Responder Services that maintains the level of service and ensure financial sustainability.
In February 2014, Fitch & Associates and County staff updated the Board of County Commissioners on the progress of the multi-year interlocal agreement and the deployment plan. See the links below.
County staff is finalizing the budgets and interlocal agreements that will go into effect on October 1, 2014 for the next fiscal year.
