Brooker Creek Preserve Management Plan

At approximately 8,000 acres, Brooker Creek Preserve is a significant conservation area in the northeastern corner of Pinellas County, where the management of its natural resources (including the protection of its potable water supply) is a priority. The Preserve was established in the early 1990s with almost 2,000 additional acres acquired since that time. It is owned by Pinellas County government and Southwest Florida Water Management District but is managed by the Pinellas County Dept. of Environmental Management, Environmental Lands Division (ELD). The 1993 Brooker Creek Preserve Management Plan is a planning document that details resource assessment, restoration projects, resource-based recreation, and supporting supplemental information. The ELD distributed an updated draft of the plan in May 2008 and then provided four public meetings to receive input from the Friends of Brooker Creek Preserve, Inc., the county's Environmental Science Forum, other affiliated groups and interested citizens. On August 26, 2008, the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners approved the Brooker Creek Preserve Management Plan 2008 Update.

The Department of Environmental Management's Environmental Lands Division manages Brooker Creek Preserve along with Weedon Island, Shell Key and Mobbly Bayou Preserves. In addition, the ELD manages 15 Management Areas. The mission of the Division is to provide sound stewardship for these wild lands and waterways along with opportunities for the public to appreciate their intrinsic value.
