County Offices Closed Monday
Pinellas County government offices will be closed Monday, Sept. 1, for the Labor Day holiday. County government business will resume Tuesday, Sept. 2.
Beach and Causeway at Fred Howard Park To Close
On Tuesday, Sept. 2, following the Labor Day holiday, the beach and causeway portions of Fred Howard Park will be closed to the public due to bridge and roadway reconstruction, which is expected to last through the fall of 2009. The 50-plus acre mainland park will remain open and visitors can enjoy a butterfly garden, several miles of kayak and canoe waterway trails, a ball field, two playgrounds, more than 90 picnic tables and nine shelters with grills and tables. Help With Pet Pick-ups is Needed During Evacuations
Adult volunteers with an affection for animals and enthusiasm for helping others are encouraged to sign up to assist special needs citizens who must evacuate their homes during an emergency such as an approaching hurricane. more>>

Water Treatment Temporarily Modified
The method of water treatment utilized by Pinellas County Utilities and its wholesale customers will be temporarily modified from Aug. 25 through Oct. 3, resulting in a switch from chloramine to chlorine disinfection. more>>
Referendum Question to be Placed on the Ballot
An ordinance passed at the Pinellas County Board of County Commission meeting Aug. 26 places a referendum question on the Nov. 4 ballot asking voters about environmentally sensitive lands. The question will be on the Nov. 4 ballot and, if passed, the ordinance would be effective Jan. 1, 2009.
