Final Inspection Relief

Although the Florida Building Code requires the permit holder to request all inspections, sometimes the homeowner is not responsive to your request to stay at home to allow our inspectors to complete the required inspections. Therefore, a few years back we established a procedure that would allow you to be relieved of this requirement when you had that customer that was uncooperative and did not want to comply with this inspection requirement.
You must attempt the following: Make at least two attempts by telephone call or letter to the owner to arrange for the final inspection. If these two attempts are met with resistance from the owner, your next step in this procedure is to send the property owner a certified (return receipt requested) letter explaining the code requirement for obtaining the final inspection. Should they still refuse to allow for the inspection simply provide proof that you attempted to arrange for the inspection and followed this procedure. This can be accomplished with telephone logs, copies of the first two letters and a copy of the green receipt from the post office for the third letter. Once we have this proof, we close the permit. This now removes the responsibility of this final inspection from your license and puts it on the property owner.
