Beckett Bridge Project - Community Outreach
Overview:
The project team is interested in your ideas and concerns about the project. Opportunities for community involvement were provided throughout the study. There are no upcoming public meetings or presentations scheduled for this project. Information on past meetings is provided below.
Past Presentations:
- April 15, 2014 – BCC Meeting
Beckett Bridge Presentation at 6 p.m.
A presentation was made to the Board of County Commission on April 15, 2014 which summarized the results of the February 26, 2014 Public Hearing. The Commission confirmed and ratified their approval of the “Recommended Alternative” to move forward as the “Preferred Alternative” and to be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration for approval. The meeting was open to the public.
The Recommended Alternative consists of replacing the existing two-lane movable bridge with a new, two-lane movable bridge. The new bridge will provide improved pedestrian and bicycle facilities and will meet current design safety standards. The bridge will provide approximately 7.8 feet of vertical clearance at the fenders in the closed position for boats traveling under the bridge. Unlimited clearance will be provided for boats in the open position. The proposed new bridge will be constructed within the existing County right-of-way. No additional adjacent property will be acquired.
Public Hearing Held:
A Public Hearing was held on February 26, 2014 at the Tarpon Springs Yacht Club. The purpose of the hearing was to provide the public with an opportunity to express their views on the location, conceptual plan, social, economic and environmental effects of the proposed improvements.
Information about all of the alternatives considered was provided and the Recommended Alternative was discussed in detail. Please visit the Public Hearing page to review the presentation video, graphics and other information presented at the Public Hearing.
