I love animals so much that I have two dogs and four cats. One of those special animals is a pure mutt named Riley that we found at the Pinellas County Animal Services. Riley is my life, he has a lot of my heart.

The Cat is Kisa.
She is a Main Coon (about 3 years old) which we adopted from Animal Services. She was my birthday present to myself. She is the queen of the house and she will eat anything, from bread to bananas, cucumbers, cheese, pasta, potatoes and anything else you put in front of her. The Dog is Sandy (or as I call her “Miss Sandy” or “Sandy Girl”) a Miniature Poodle about 5 years old. We adopted her from Animal Services in August 2006. It took me a long time to find a small breed, so this was love at first sight. Sandy is a healthy and active dog, she is full of joy and L-O-V-E-S people. She is also so smart that I can’t help but think of her as a little person - she understands everything we say!

Our 3 year old daughter "adopted" Maggie. Maggie is a strong, female English bulldog, hence her name is short for Margaret Thatcher. Maggie has a sweet disposition and personality. She enjoys playing with the family, chasing lizards and hanging out in the yard when we're gardening. maggie always takes time out to smell the roses, er geraniums!.

When I adopted Holly from Animal Services at PetSmart in February of 2006, I thought that I was adopting a pet. As it turned out, I was actually
getting a great roommate! Holly, a 13-month-old domestic short hair, delights in helping with household chores. While I sort laundry, Holly jumps from the laundry basket to the floor pushing items into the piles. When I begin to strip the sheets off of the bed, Holly will work feverishly to pull one corner of the sheet off of the mattress while I work on another. Never one to shirk duty, she likes to sit in my lap and place an occasional paw on the keyboard to see that her share of the homework is done. She is pictured here in her favorite resting spot, the top of our refrigerator. She is able to survey all household activity from this vantage point, but when there is work to be done I can count on my roommate,
Holly the Helper

LaCota is a Siberian Husky, his name means “high wolf”. He is two years. old, I have owned him now for over one year. When I saw him in the cage he looked so sad, he wouldn't even lift his head up. I couldn’t imagine not having him. He is such a good dog and listens really well. He loves to go on long walks and he talks a lot (howling), his favorite thing is listening to wolf sounds. He has beautiful blue eyes, and is very sweet.
He looks tough but he’s a big baby! I am so glad I went to the shelter that day and found my best friend.

Matilda, the black and white female, came from Animal Services several years ago. My husband fell in love with her eyes. She’s a great huntress and playmate for our male cat, Tobyn, who was a stray adopted by my younger daughter (he’s ours now that she moved out of state). Tobyn (the yellow one) is big and easily distracted. He’s obsessed with his food supply and is very demanding of attention.

We found the purrrrrrfect pet. Because she is such a "cool cat" we named her Jazz. She is so friendly and sweet and Animal Services made it so easy to adopt her. Plus she came litter-trained and was already spayed! I found Jazz when she came to the Communications Department (where I work) to be on PCC-TV's Pick-a-Pet. I fell in love with her the moment I saw her and called my husband Al to came take a look at her. We literally followed the cat back to Animal Services to adopt her. Thank you Animal Services for such a great addition to our family!

I (Penny) was born around July 1, 2006. Some kind people found me and took me to this place called Animal Services.
It was real nice there, I had a big play room with other kittens. One day this lady came into the play room and picked ME up and petted me. Then she told me to go back and play with my little friends, and put me down by her feet. No way was I going to go back and play when I had a chance to be adopted, so I just sat there and looked at her. My cute little face must have done it because she took me out to the desk and asked how she could bring home her new best friend! ME!!

Madeline: On a weekend we visited the Animal Services shelter. We made our way into the cat adoption room and saw many kittens curiously exploring their surroundings. However, one kitten was different from all the rest.
She was a gray and white kitten with a distinctive marking on her chin and upper lip in the shape of a goatee.
She was in her own cage with a sign attached that read "Cautious, move slow.”
Frightened by her surroundings, she instinctively remained near the back of the cage.
We carefully brought her out from the cage, and she immediately started to purr.
We could not put her down after that moment.
We knew that we could provide the home that this kitten deserved.

“Shenzie” is a chihuahua with
front deformed legs that I adopted from Animal Services.
She does not know that she has a deformity and it doesn’t slow her down one bit. I bring her to work with me everyday at Animal Services. She waits patiently at the gate when I leave the office just as she is in the picture.

This is Tai Chi (Pekingese Extra-ordinaire), whom I adopted from Pinellas County Animal Services in December 1997. Someone had dropped Tai off in the "overnight or after hours" box with no name, no info, not one bit of informational background. I was at the adoption center looking for a companion for my year-old Cairn terrier when the staff brought this little love out to put back with the other adoptables. I took one look at him and said I have to have him, please, please. And I went home with this little guy I call Tai. He doesn’t play with toys, shoes, or do fancy tricks. He just sort of hangs around looking handsome, as is his just do, being from a long line of Chinese palace dogs. It just isn’t seemly for him to be anything but conservative and serene. He sure is a great pal to me, and my Cairn Cookie thinks he hung the moon. What a joy!
Thank you very much!

I wasn't looking to adopt a cat when I visited Animal Services - I was "just looking." But from the high shelf, a velvery-gray tabby put his paw on my shoulder and I knew he was meant for our household. Since then, his sunny disposition has made Walken a happy ambassador to all, embodying his personal theme song, "Beautiful Boy."

Oh, I think Animal Services is great. I got Candy here about three years ago. You can’t get a more special or wonderful pet than from here. Candy is pictured here cooling off with Danielle’s father.

The summer of 2006 saw the passing of our beloved family pet, Sasha, a beautiful solid black cat who was adopted from Animal Services in 1999.
At first we weren’t sure we wanted to adopt again. But three weeks after losing Sasha, my daughter and I visited your facility. It only took a moment, we fell in love all over again. This time with two sisters who melted our hearts. Ashley and Tinkerbell have completed our family.
The picture shows these two little “monsters” bagged by the Great Pumpkin.

| We adopted Annie, the basenji last year about this time. Toward the end of August or first of September. We took off for Michigan because of a sick relative in October. She was a handful at first, from lack of exercise and discipline, but she has developed into a great dog. Sadie, the yellow dog came from the SPCA in 2007. Annie and Sadie are best friends,as you can see, and they found themselves a perch to watch the snow fly while up north for six months, not to mention seeing deer, rabbits, etc. At home we go for a walk in Starkey Park every morning for a couple of hours and they chase each other around and around the pool, leaping the stone wall over and over until they are exhausted (and so is the yard), But they have fun and Annie has a happy forever home. Thought you might like to hear about a happy ending. Sherry and Nik in New Port Richey |

| The card on Lucky's kennel at Animal Services told us he was a terrier mix. The look on his face and his gentle manner told us he was going to be our new family pet. My 5-year-old daughter Erin, who had just started kindergarten, and Lucky became instant friends. When our second daughter, Emily, was born, he loved her from the first sniff! Lucky's life with us includes nightly walks, boating, riding in the car, trying to catch squirrels and lizards in our backyard and daily head scratching by my husband. In exchange, he has given us an enthusiastic welcome home every day, the comfort that our family is safer and unconditional love. Time has flown by and even as the girls have grown, Lucky continues to greet them every day, to check on them during their sleep every night and to be a great companion. We thank Animal Services for picking up a stray dog who became our beloved family dog. Nancy Ritz, Largo |

All three animals in this photo are from Pinellas County Animal Services. They are, left to right: Sammy, Bravehart and Archie. When we first moved to our condo we were limited to two animals, Sammy and Archie. During that time I walked dogs at Animal Services to satisfy my doggie craving, but their tugging on the leash gradually increased my back discomfort. What perfect timing that our condo association permitted an increase of one animal just as my body was giving out! Now I could adopt a dog—Bravehart. Because of his calm and relaxed temperament, Bravehart is a Project Pup volunteer bringing joy, comfort and happiness to residents at a nursing home and hospice. I miss my dog walks at PCAS, but feel much satisfaction bringing gentle Bravehart to people. Our visits are fully rewarded by happy smiles and affection. Bravehart comes home full of experiences to share with his buddies, Sammy and Archie, as shown in the photo of the three together. Thanks PCAS for making this all possible!

Several years ago Scooter and his brother (a large mixed breed), were removed from an elderly individual’s home who was going to a nursing home. The family members were
notified about the dogs, but no one came to claim them. They were old and not in good shape health-wise. Scooter’s big brother did not make it, but Scooter did by just a few
seconds. A woman and I here at the shelter decided this little old boy deserved to live out the rest of his life happy, and no matter what, one of us would adopt him.
As you can see in the picture, he is spoiled rotten and loving every minute of it!

This is Haley....a lab/chow mix we adopted from Pinellas County Animal Services. She is the most wonderful, loving dog that any family could have. We walk around Taylor Park every-day and go to the “doggy beach” every weekend. We LOVE our puppy.
Thank you PCAS for giving us such a wonderful friend.

We had been looking for a puppy a few years after our dog JD passed on. Our boy Tyler especially wanted a new dog. We diligently went to the local Pinellas County shelter hoping to find a suitable pet for him. One fateful day, Tyler spotted a small puppy huddled, no, cowering in the corner of her cage. He immediately pointed and said that’s the one! My husband, son Danny and I came to see what he had found. She was shaking at the very sight of any movement. Tyler was positive he had found his new friend. We adopted her and Tyler named her Trigger. She (part chow/retriever) was just a puppy (only 5 months old) at the time when she and her sister where taken to the shelter. Trigger’s sister, already spoken for, had been separated from her.
When we first took Trigger home all she did was cower in a corner. She had been abused and terribly mistreated. There was only fear in her eyes. It took a couple of weeks before she would even walk around the house. Although the entire family loves Trigger, it took the unrelenting love of a 9 year-old boy to bring Trigger back to a trusting friend and family member. Trigger is not Tyler’s dog… Tyler is Trigger’s boy.
