California Integrated Waste Management Board
The California Integrated Waste Management Board offers 50 lesson plans for grades K-6 that encourage students to "reduce, reuse, and recycle" with its Closing the Loop curriculum. The lessons are interdisciplinary and hands-on.

Can Manufacturers Institute
The Can Manufacturers Institute offers environmental curriculum with activities and experiments related to aluminum can recycling: The ABCs of Environmental Education for grades 4-6, Talkin’ Trash with ABCs for grades 6-9, and Cans: Infinitely Recyclable for high school.

Dow Education
Dow offers chemistry-related lesson plans and classroom activities by grade level, including What's in My Trash?, Reduce Waste Through Responsible Living and Where Does the Trash Go?.

Earth 911
Teachers section includes a book list with lesson plan extensions.

EPA
United States Environmental Protection Agency site for teachers includes lesson plans. For water information, see The Water Sourcebooks with 324 activities for grades K-12. Curriculum sheets for K-6 and for 7-12 with interesting activities such as Trash Through the Ages poster activity and Building a Mini-Landfill.

PaperRecycles.org
The Paper Industry Association Council (PIAC) offers educational tools for teachers on paper recycling including videos, poster, worksheets, and classroom activity on making paper.

RBRC (Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation)
Their Call 2 Recycle Activity Booklet ( large file size) teaches students the importance of recycling rechargeable batteries and the history of electricity.

Recycle Zone
Waste Watch in the United Kingdom provides waste reduction information including newsletters with classroom activities.

Science Spot
An Illinois science teacher developed this site for middle school teachers with science trivia, teaching ideas, classroom activities, and club projects.

Splash Water Resources Education
Southwest Florida Water Management District offers Splash Water Resources activities for middle school students keyed to Sunshine State Standards such as building a model of the hydrologic cycle with 2-liter soda bottles. They also offer excellent free teacher resources that can be printed (or you can order class sets) such as posters, bookmarks, activity books, and newsletters with teacher guides (Sprinkles for K-2, WaterDrops for grades 3-5, and WaterWeb for grades 6-12, and Currents for grades 9-12).

Think Green
Discovery Education and Waste Management offer classroom tools for teachers including lesson plans and videos. Materials on cutting waste and recycling are available for grades K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.
