Clearwater, Fla—Pinellas County Utilities’ billing periods are being realigned in order to keep customers on a six billing-period-per-year cycle.

Customer bills issued during July and August 2008 reflect a longer than normal billing period. The adjustment will synchronize the billing periods that shifted due to upgrades to the customer service computer system that were performed during the March/April 2008 period.

Customers may notice higher than normal consumption on their bills because of the extended billing period. The normal billing period is 61 days. From March to June, many of the billing periods ranged from 51 to 56 days.

During this re-alignment, billing periods greater than 65 days will see a higher proration rate to adjust for the short period earlier in the year. Upon request of an account audit, some customers may be eligible for a credit to their account ranging from less than a dollar, up to $15, depending on the number of services on the account. As a result of the large number of customers who are eligible for these credits, it may take 2-3 weeks for the credit to be posted to the account. After this period of realignment, the billing periods will be fixed to the normal bi-monthly cycle. Due to the high volume of calls at this time, customers may temporarily experience longer hold times.
