South Cross Bayou Water Reclamation Facility is a permitted 33 million gallon per day (MGD) Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant serving South Pinellas County. We use various biological, chemical, and physical processes to turn wastewater into resources: reclaimed water used for irrigation throughout south County and fertilizer pellets made from biosolids.
Tour Information:
- Tours typically take place Tuesdays and Thursday mornings and are available by appointment only.
- Our approximately 90 minute tour begins with an introductory presentation, followed by a tram-assisted tour of our 35 acre site. The tour topics and length can be customized to accommodate various age groups and interests.
- To ensure the safety of all visitors, we request that guests wear flat, close toed shoes/sneakers or work boots which will not slide off your feet. William E. Dunn Water Reclamation Facility is a permitted, 9-MGD Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant which uses the Bardenpho Activated Sludge Process. We produce: 1. Reclaimed Water, which is distributed back to North Pinellas for irrigation and, 2. Biosolids, which are taken to South Cross Bayou Water Reclamation Facility and turned into fertilizer.
Our walking tour is about 1.5 miles (with a substantial amount of stairs) and takes about 90 minutes. It is customized based on your group focus, such as: grade in school or college, interest in wastewater job field, and/or expertise (engineering, science, tech, finance, educators). We also offer virtual tours to groups who prefer not to walk about the facility site.
Tour Information:
- Tours are available by appointment only and generally we prefer between 8 a.m. - 2 p.m., Tuesday to Thursday.
- It is loud outside and physical space is limited in several areas, so large groups will need to break down for separate tours: we can accommodate 10 children with 2 adults or no more than 12 adults.
- We ask that our guests are no younger than 6 years of age and able to follow
instructions.
