The
Public Works Transportation Engineering Division
oversees and manages Public Works projects that
increase major roadway capacities, reduce roadway
travel time and improve pedestrian/bicyclist features.
It also oversees intersection projects, the upgrade
of road surfaces through milling and/or resurfacing
and the upgrade of traffic signals. Coordination
of transportation projects requiring the involvement
of engineering consulting firms in the design
process is handled by a special subgroup of the
Transportation Engineering Division referred to
as the Transportation
Division - Consultant Coordination Group.
Functional
Responsibilities:
- Administer
citizen participation for County roadway proposals/projects
and insure communication with citizens, neighborhood
associations and groups relative to transportation
issues.
- Coordinate
and network County transportation planning efforts
with Pinellas County Planning Department, Metropolitan
Planning Organization (MPO), FDOT and other
state and local agencies.
- Review,
analyze and make recommendations for Capital
Improvement Program transportation projects.
- Develop
and/or assist in preparation of transportation
management alternatives and specialty plans
(bikeways/pedestrian ways).
- Develop
a dynamic public participation program around
County transportation projects for existing
and new corridors.
- Review
and analyze transportation legislation.
- Represent
the County on local transportation and bicycle
safety committees.
- Develop,
administer and manage contractual agreements
with outside consultants and contractors.
- Represent
the County on all appropriate transportation
committees.
