Discrimination - Public Accommodations: ![]()
Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), public accommodations, such as public parking spaces, ramps and handicapped railing must be accessible and service animals must be allowed access. The Americans with Disability Act guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment and transportation, state and local government services and telecommunications. Grievances concerning protections specifically provided by the Americans with Disabilities Act are filed separately from other claims. Pinellas County has an ADA coordinator in the Office of Human Rights.
Examples:
- Insufficient handicap railings or handicap parking spots at business
- Denied services or entry into building because of service animal
- No wheelchair access on right of way
- Denied reasonable modification on home due to disability
- Denied reasonable modification on the job (such as installing a ramp or modifying a restroom)
