Training provided for volunteers working in the following positions:

  • Greeter
  • Historic House Caretaker
  • Summer volunteers – adult volunteers support the Junior Docent volunteers (see below)

  • Gift Shop Volunteer

Unique Volunteer Opportunities-Descriptions:

  • Docent Tour Guide: Are you curious or interested about architecture, historic houses, Pinellas County or Florida history? Do you enjoy sharing your knowledge and passion with others? Then join our docents at Heritage Village and welcome visitors to our historic structures. Engage guests in conversation about community life, architectural styles, artifacts and more. One on one
    training and mentoring by experienced volunteers is provided.
  • Museum Greeters: Meet school groups, bus tours and visitors, provide tour information, help guests read their maps and answer questions in the field. Morning and afternoon shifts available.
  • Historic House Caretaker: “Adopt an historic house” and provide special care and detailing utilizing historic house preservation guidelines.
  • Maintenance: Are you experienced with home or commercial repair or are you interested in historic preservation? Help staff with behind the scenes upgrades, light maintenance and simple repairs. Inside and outside work is available.
  • Grounds Assistant: Do you love the Florida piney woods? Help keep Heritage Village pathways, porches and walkways clear of debris and provide upkeep to plantings around historic houses. Heritage Village Garden volunteers provide interesting info on the history of agriculture, crops and growing vegetable gardens in Florida.

College Internships at Heritage Village – Summer 2015

College Internships are now available at Heritage Village for summer 2015.  Interested adults 18 years of age and older enrolled in a related college program can apply. Summer interns assist Heritage Village with youth programming and support for the Junior Docent and Passport Adventures programs. The Passport Adventures program brings visiting youth age 4 – 11 years to tour Heritage Village; and the Junior Docent program prepares youth age 12 – 17 years to provide historic tours.  Interns contribute approximately 100 volunteer hours while gaining valuable work experience and college credit. 

College Intern Training Dates:  June 3, 4, and 5, 2015; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Junior Docents at Heritage Village are students ages 12 through 17 from the community who enjoy learning about Pinellas County and Florida history. Teen volunteers donate their time:

  • Researching and presenting guided tours at Heritage Village
  • Participating in special events and festivals
  • Learning living history activities
  • Providing a community role model to children and young adults
  • Hours credited towards the Bright Futures College Scholarships program

New Junior Docent Volunteer Orientation

Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 10 a.m.
ALL NEW AND RETURNING
JUNIOR VOLUNTEERS
MUST ATTEND:
Pinellas Room at Heritage Village, 11909 125th Street N., Largo, FL 33774.
Each youth must be accompanied by a guardian/adult

Summer Orientation and Training:  Each summer, teens from Pinellas County join the volunteer team at Heritage Village and are provided a special training session. Approved as a Bright Future volunteer location, Heritage Village's Junior Docent Program encourages teens aged 12 - 17 to learn about local and Florida history by participating in the fun action packed Passport Adventures program. Teens provide historic house tours, demonstrate fun living history activities, play historic games, sing songs and much more.

Junior Docent Training Dates:  June 10, 11 and 12, 2015; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
