Built
in 1878 along the Anclote River in Spring
Bayou (Tarpon Springs), this 14' x 14' "honeymoon
cottage" never boasted electricity.
Built by Joshua C. Boyer as a temporary shelter
for his new bride Mary Ormond, the cottage
is a fine example of vernacular Gulf Coast
style architecture. Made of vertical siding
with board and batten and a sharply peaked
gable roof with wooden shingles, this "temporary" shelter
survived nearly a hundred years of storms
and inclement weather to become the oldest
existing structure in Tarpon Springs.
In 1978, the cottage was donated to Heritage Village by George and Anita Protos of Tarpon Springs.
