CURRENT PROJECTS

Lake Tarpon Area 6 Stormwater Treatment

This project will modify an existing Florida Dept. of Transportation (FDOT) pond located in Lake Tarpon sub-basin 6.  This pond, located at the SE corner of U.S. 19 and E. Oakview Dr. in Tarpon Springs, drains 360 acres and outfalls to a wetland that drains though Anderson Park, into Lake Tarpon.

An aluminum sulfate (alum) injection system will be constructed at the pond site.  Alum has been used successfully to improve the quality of surface waters by precipitating suspended solids out of the water column, reducing nutrient loading and improving water clarity in receiving water bodies.  Alum injection systems have been installed on many Florida lakes.

The addition of the alum injection system will provide an estimated reduction of pollutants as follows: 90% of TSS (14.13 tons/year), 85% of total phosphorus (0.66 tons/year), and 50% of total nitrogen (2.53 tons/year).

This project is in the preliminary design phase.  Construction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2006.

Lake Tarpon Area 23 Stormwater Treatment

An alum injection system is proposed for this site.  This sub-basin has one of the highest nutrient loading values into Lake Tarpon.

The addition of the alum injection system will provide an estimated reduction of pollutants as follows: 90% of TSS (0.71 tons/year), 90% of total phosphorus (0.05 tons/year), and 40% of total nitrogen (0.67 tons/year). This project is scheduled to begin in 2006 with the selection of a consultant and preliminary design.

Lake Tarpon Area 63 Stormwater Treatment

An alum injection system is proposed for this site, at the George St. canal at Old East Lake Rd.

The addition of the alum injection system will provide an estimated reduction of pollutants as follows: 90% of TSS (2.66 tons/year), 90% of total phosphorus (0.20 tons/year), and 40% of total nitrogen (0.20 tons/year). This project is scheduled to begin in 2006 with the selection of a consultant and preliminary design.
