2008 Summer Camps

Registrations are now being accepted for three different summer camps at the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center (BCPEEC) and the Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center (WIPCNHC).  Contact us today to learn more!

Summer Camp Schedule

June 16, 17, 19, and 20

Junior Kayak Camp WIPCNHC 10:00 am – 2:00 pm

Junior Kayak Camp at Weedon Island Preserve
Paddle into adventure at Weedon Island in June. This Junior Kayak Camp combines education with fun while teaching the fundamentals of kayaking, safety and teamwork. Campers practice honing their paddling skills, while learning how wind and currents affect their water adventure and safety. Weedon Island Preserve offers the perfect natural setting for this fun-filled camp.

Who should attend: Students entering 4th, 5th or 6th grade in August 2008.

Registration Fee: $140/camper ($130.85 + 9.15 tax) for all four days. Sweetwater Kayaks, a vendor at Weedon Island Preserve, is conducting the camp and handling registration. Call (727) 570-4844 for more information or to register.

Registration: limited to 12 campers and is on a first-come basis.

Herpetology Camp (offered twice)
This week-long camp has the inquisitive child in mind. Campers explore the fascinating world of amphibians and reptiles side-by-side with herpetologist George Heinrich. Through up-close encounters with a variety of animals, such as gopher tortoises, frogs, lizards, and snakes, campers learn about amphibian and reptile ecology and conservation. 

Who should attend: Students entering 2nd through 6th grades in August 2008 and are between the ages of 7 - 11 are encouraged to apply.

Registration Fee: $125/week/camper ($116.82 + 8.18 tax). For the camp at Weedon Island Preserve, call (727) 453-6500. For the camp at Brooker Creek Preserve, call (727) 453-6800.

Senior Kayak Camp
In July, venture into the beautiful waterscape of Weedon Island Preserve in a kayak. This Senior Kayak Camp combines education with fun while teaching kayaking, safety and teamwork. Previous training in kayaking isn't necessary. Weedon Island Preserve offers the perfect natural setting for this learning experience.

Who should attend: Campers entering 7th, 8th and 9th grades in August 2008.
