Renourishment was completed on September 18, 2006.

Following the 2005 hurricane season, Pinellas County requested emergency federal assistance from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to repair storm damage to Treasure Island and Long Key (St. Pete Beach) under Public Law 84-99, Flood Control and Coastal Emergencies (FCCE).  In response to this request, the Army Corps initiated a Project Information Report to determine whether the project was eligible for emergency repairs utilizing FCCE funding.  The report findings indicated that significant storm damages occurred during the 2005 hurricane season. Thus, the $3 million rehabilitation project will be funded at 100% federal cost.

The project will place 270,000 cubic yards of sand along three beach fill areas: 1) Sunshine Beach, 2) Sunset Beach, and 3) Upham Beach. The streets that correspond to the fill limits are indicated on the map below.  Work will progress from north to south over approximately two months.  Sand will be dredged from Egmont Shoals, just offshore of the entrance to Tampa Bay and north of Egmont Key. The 2005 Sand Key contract with Norfolk Dredging Company was extended to include this work.
