Clean Diesel
- In addition to traditional regulatory programs, Pinellas County's Air Quality Division proactively seeks additional funding and partners with industry and the community to prevent pollution and contribute to a sustainable environment. While Pinellas County currently meets National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for ozone and fine particulates, 44% of the county's population is comprised of sensitive populations known to be more susceptible to the effects of diesel exhaust. Diesel emissions are a known source of particulate matter, an air pollutant known to cause harmful cardiovascular and respiratory effects for the elderly, children, asthmatics and individuals with pre-existing heart or lung disease.
The Division's Clean Diesel Initiative goals are to:
1. Identify alternative fuels and strategies to reduce exposure of sensitive populations
to diesel exhaust; and
2. Reduce ambient air emissions from diesel engines.
Contact the Air Quality Division at (727) 464-4422 or email us at AirQuality@pinellascounty.org
