Brooker
Creek Preserve - Overview At approximately 8000 acres today, the Brooker Creek Preserve
is the largest remaining natural open space in Pinellas County.
The Preserve was established in the early 1990s by the Pinellas
County Board of County Commissioners for the conservation of
its natural resources, including native plant communities,
wildlife habitat, and hydrology. The Preserve also provides
compatible resource-based recreational opportunities for visitors. The Preserve provides flood storage of
stormwater within the wetlands and creek
floodplains, maintains natural groundwater
recharge, and helps to protect the Lake
Tarpon Watershed.
The Department of Environmental Management's
Environmental Lands Division manages the
Brooker Creek Preserve along with Weedon
Island Preserve, Shell Key Preserve, Mobbly
Bayou Preserve, and more than a dozen Management
Areas. The mission of the Division
is to provide sound stewardship for these
wild lands and waterways along with opportunities
for the public to appreciate their intrinsic
value.
