A number of nonprofit agencies offer various types of housing assistance to families and individuals in emergency situations.

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) sponsored through the Pinellas County Urban League provides energy payment assistance on behalf of low-income individuals and families who meet the program's eligibility requirements. Three (3) categories of assistance are available. Home Energy Assistance Funds pay a state-designated portion of the client's utility bill directly to the utility company. Crisis Assistance Funds pay the client's actual utility bill owed, up to $300 and/or other necessary emergency expenses, such as electric fans in a heat emergency during the summer months or heaters and blankets in a cold weather emergency during the winter months. Additionally, Weather Related Crisis Funds are available to clients when they are directly affected by a weather related or energy supply shortage as declared by the Governor and/or President of the Untied States. Household income must be at or below 150% of the poverty guidelines for the year prior to the month of application. Serving Pinellas County .

Unexpected events may occur, such as the loss of a job, a reduction in work hours, illness, divorce, etc., that may have caused you to fall behind in your mortgage payments. The HomeBuyers Club is available to assist the home owner in identifying solutions to financial problems, while avoiding the loss of their home to foreclosure.

The purpose of the HomeBuyers Club program is to preserve and protect the homes of Pinellas County residents from foreclosure. Services include problem identification, counseling, and budgeting.

The Foreclosure Prevention Program is a service of the Tampa Bay Community Development Corporation and the HomeBuyers Club. The program offers Pinellas County home owners guidance and assistance in an effort to avoid foreclosure and retain ownership of their homes.

The home owner is provided the opportunity to meet individually with a housing counselor to do a complete review of their current situation and the available options for resolution of the problem(s).

There is no cost to the home owner to participate in the program and meet with a housing counselor.
