Pinellas County was designated the first 'Green County' in Florida by the Florida Green Building Coalition in 2007.

Since 2005, two Pinellas County beaches have been named #1 beach in the nation, Ft. DeSoto County Park in 2005 and Caladesi Island State Park in 2008.
